Interview with Miss Steffani Brass

Steffani Brass

Steffani Brass, the young precocious Renata in the Miracles episode "Battle at Shadow Ridge", has been acting most of her life. If you think she looks familiar, you may have seen Miss Brass in various television and major motion pictures.

Miss Brass has appeared on several television commercials from Subaru to the recent and still running

Tylenol ads. She has also appeared in roles for "Without a Trace", "Oliver Beene", and the critically acclaimed "Six Feet Under". She has not, however, limited her acting experiences to the small screen. She has also played roles in major motion pictures such as "Ted Bundy", "Running Mates", and the soon to be released "Target" with Stephen Baldwin.

Recently she agreed to answer a few questions exclusively for Miracles HQ and the fans.

Please enjoy these questions and answers, and visit her website at http://steffanibrass.com.

Q. How long have you been acting professionally?
A. I got my first commercial when I was 6 months old. It was for Pampers.

Q. Is there any one role that you have enjoyed more than the others?
A. I loved working on "That 70's Show". The cast was so fun. They're really young so they made it fun for me too. When I was younger, I loved working on "The Amanda Show" which is on Nickelodeon. I got to bring all my friends to be in the audience. It was great!

Q. How were you chosen to be in "Battle at Shadow Ridge"?
A. When I was at the callback with the producers & Director, I did the part with a southern accent. As I was leaving I said "bye, thank you" without the accent. The director stopped me and said "Steff - aren't you from the south?" and I said "no, I'm from California". I think they were surprised. It might be part of the reason I got the part.

Q. How old were you when you filmed this episode?
A.
I was 10.

Q. What was it like working with the actors and crew of 'Miracles'?
A.
This episode was fun because of the soldiers. It felt like we were in the past. Skeet Ulrich is really nice (and cute). The crew was awesome. They let me bring my best friend to the set one day to watch me film.

Q. What was a normal day for you while on the set of "Battle at Shadow Ridge"?
A.
Well, if it's a school day, then I have to do 3 hours of school. sometimes they split it up. So I could get to work and go right to hair and makeup and then they send me to school. I have a tutor there. I have to do at least 20 minutes before they can call me to the set. So then I'll go rehearse a scene and then I'll go back to school and then I'll go film a scene and then go back to school. Lunch is the best part because the food is really good. And there are lots and lots of snacks.

Q. What, if anything, sticks out in your mind the most about the filming of this episode? Were there any pranks, funny, or scary moments you would like to share with us?
A.
Well, there weren't any pranks with me and Paul (he played my brother), but we sure got scared the first time we saw the "ghost" Henry Tucker. I didn't expect him to look like that at all. He was all bloody and cut up. He looked gross.

Q. In "Battle at Shadow Ridge" you spoke with a very convincing Southern accent. Is this normal for you, and if not, how hard was it for you to learn?
A.
The accent isn't real but it's real easy to do. I can also do British, Irish and now Russian. Oh and I can do New York too because that's where my mom is from.

Q. What new projects of yours can we all look forward to enjoying in the future?
A.
I have a recurring role on the HBO series "Six Feet Under". My character is Michaela and my episodes don't start till season 4 which is in June.

Q. As you get older, there are many directions you could go. Are you looking to remain an actor, or do you have other aspirations; is there something else you would like to do in the future?
A.
I really love acting and I love being on sets. I think I want to keep acting for now, but who knows - I might change my mind when I'm 20. I think I want to be a director someday too.

Q. Additional bonus question for fans in the US and viewers who have not seen this episode.
You have finally had the opportunity to watch this rare, unshown episode. What did you think of it?
A.
I thought this episode was so cool. At the end when we're in the car watching the lights go up to the sky, my mom told me they were the spirits of the soldiers. When we were filming that part, I wasn't looking at anything. It was neet to see what I was supposed to be looking at.

Also (just want to add) my friend Ashley Edner is in the "Friendly Skies" episode and I think she did a great job.

Thanks for interviewing me! It was fun. I hope Miracles can comes back here too so all my family and friends all over the U.S. can see it!
